GlobalData expects the Belgian construction industry to grow in real terms by 1.6% in 2026, supported by investments in housing, commercial and energy construction projects. According to Belgian statistics office (STATBEL), the investments in water and sewage grew sharply by 35.3% year on year (YoY), followed by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (16.3% YoY) and construction (0.3% YoY) in Q1 2026. Notably, the second half of 2026 is expected to deliver a stronger performance in the construction industry compared to the first half of 2026 supported by the rollout of scheduled construction works. Considering the projects tracked by GlobalData as of July 2026, there are 60 construction projects across various stages of construction which are scheduled to commence in H2 2026.
GlobalData expects the construction industry to register an annual growth of 3.3% from 2027 to 2030, supported by investments in data center, transport infrastructure, industrial and renewable energy utility projects. Investments under the Belgium’s 2021-2030 National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) which outlines the government’s target of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by 55% by 2030 relative to 1990 levels, pursuit of climate neutrality by 2050 is also expected to support construction industry output over the forecast period. To support this, in mid-July 2026, the government approved a new regulatory framework for launching the tender for the EUR7 billion ($7.6 billion) 700MW offshore wind farm in Princess Elisabeth Zone. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2031.
