Key Highlights
Despite delays and cancellations in some areas, 44 projects came online in 2025, adding ~14.8mtpa of capture capacity. While this indicates sector progress, momentum has softened over H1 2026, with only 4 projects reaching completion.
While the overall project pipeline remains large, with GlobalData tracking 806 active and upcoming projects totaling ~930.6mtpa in capacity, this represents a 2.4% contraction versus the market outlook in Q1 2026.
North America remains the leading CCUS region by total pipeline capacity, although that capacity contracted in H1 2026. Total announced capacity declined 5.5% from year-end 2025 to Q2 2026, driven primarily by early-stage attrition, with feasibility capacity down 15% and FEED down 14%.
Even so, later-stage execution has improved, indicating a bifurcated CCUS development landscape. Commissioning capacity rose sharply from 0.5mtpa to 5.7mtpa.
Natural gas processing continues to lead in terms of active CCUS capacity. However, within the upcoming project pipeline, power generation continues to remain the leading sector adopting CCUS, with surging electricity demand, much of it tied to AI and data center load growth.
