Epidyolex Drug Details
Cannabidiol (Epidiolex/ CBD, Epidyolex) is a phytocannabinoid, one of the active cannabinoid identified within the Cannabis plant accounting for up to 40% of the Cannabis plant’s extract, acts as an anti-epileptic agent. It is formulated as a solution for oral route of administration. Epidiolex is indicated for the treatment of seizures associated with Lennox-gastaut syndrome or dravet syndrome in patients 2 years of age and older and Rett syndrome and also as an adjunctive therapy of seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) or Dravet syndrome (DS), in conjunction with clobazam, for patients 2 years of age and older or it is also indicated for tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in patients 1 year of age and older. Cannabidiol (Epidiolex) is under development for the treatment of electrical status epilepticus of sleep (ESES), tuberous sclerosis complex in patients age 1 month to less than 12 months, epilepsy with myoclonic atonic seizures, blepharospasm, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder (pervasive developmental disorder), tuberous sclerosis complex, anorexia nervosa, Sturge-Weber syndrome, infantile spasm, tremor in Parkinson’s Disease, heroin use disorder, opioid use disorder, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (NHIE), developmental and epileptic encephalopathy. It was under development for Rett syndrome and schizophrenia related psychotic disorder.
