These bans and restrictions had a significant effect on Emirate’s business: the carrier claims to have seen profits fall to 82% in 2016, compared to 2015 figures. To deter the business crisis, Emirates is studying the feasibility of a “budget economy” and “economic plus” cabin, with narrow seating and fewer perks, to cater to price sensitive customers.
