The Malaysian construction industry is expected to grow by 6.5% in real terms in 2026, supported by rising investments in commercial and transport infrastructure projects, coupled with rapid growth in data center and energy projects. According to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the total value of loans disbursed for the construction industry rose by 11.4% year-on-year (YoY) in the first six months of 2026, following annual growth of 14.5% in 2025. Furthermore, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), the construction industry’s value-add grew by 6.5% YoY in Q2 2026, preceded by YoY growth of 7.7% in Q1 2026 and 10.9% in Q4 2025.
Over the forecast period, the Malaysian construction industry is expected to register an annual average growth rate of 3.5% between 2027 and 2030, supported by the government’s investment in transportation, housing, and energy projects, in line with the government’s 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). In early October 2026, Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) will submit the 2027 Budget to Parliament; the budget will focus on easing cost-of-living pressures while strengthening social protection, improving public services, and attracting high-value investments. The government is focusing on key areas under the upcoming budget, including artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, semiconductors, and the energy transition, along with strengthening core highway and road networks across the country. Growth in the construction industry will also be bolstered by the country’s aim of increasing the utilization of rail for cargo transport from 6% in 2024 to 13% in 2030 by developing and enhancing the railway network.
