Mpox Marketed and Pipeline Drugs Report Overview
Mpox (monkeypox) is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus, an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus of the Orthopoxvirus genus in the Poxviridae family, which includes variola, cowpox, vaccinia, and other viruses. The two genetic clades of the virus are (Central Africa) clades I and (West Africa) Clade II. The current global outbreak (2022–23) is caused by Clade IIb, a subtype of the less severe West African clade. Poxviruses are brick-shaped, surrounded by a lipoprotein envelope with a linear double-stranded DNA genome. Viral replication takes place in the cytoplasm of the infected cell. Aside from their reliance on host ribosomes for messenger RNA (mRNA) translation, the poxvirus genome encodes all essential factors for replication, transcription, assembly, and egress.
The Mpox marketed and pipeline drugs market research report includes an assessment of the disease epidemiology, leading marketed products with sales forecast, and late-to-mid-stage pipeline products with Phase Transition Success Rate (PTSR) and Likelihood of Approval (LoA) for Mpox. The report also analyzes the clinical and commercial landscapes of Mpox, as well as an assessment of deals, future market catalysts, key market players, and the future competitive environment.
Leading Marketed Drugs in Mpox
The leading marketed drugs in Mpox are Jynneos (Imvanex/Imvamune), Tecovirimat (Tpoxx), and monkeypox [strain LC16m8] vaccinex. Tecovirimat (Tpoxx) is the only approved medication for the treatment of severe complications of mpox that is available in both an oral and intravenous formulation. Currently, several other antiviral medications are used off-label to treat patients with mpox. These off-label antivirals include: brincidofovir (Tembexa), which is approved for smallpox, and cidofovir (Vistide), an intravenously administered antiviral approved to treat cytomegalovirus retinitis in patients with HIV.
