Tanzania Construction Market Segmentation by Sectors

Energy and utilities construction: Construction activity in the energy and utilities sector is estimated to grow by more than 5% in real terms in 2023 and record an annual average growth rate of more than 8% over the remainder of the forecast period, supported by the government’s plan to diversify its energy sources and generate 5GW of electricity by 2025. In March 2023, the energy ministry announced the completion of negotiations between Tanzania’s government and the energy companies, Equinor and Shell for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Lindi region.
Institutional construction: The institutional construction sector’s output over the forecast period will be supported by the government’s efforts to raise investment in the education and healthcare sectors.
Residential construction: The government’s aim to provide affordable housing to low-income citizens for financing housing deficit is expected to drive residential construction growth over the forecast period. In March 2023, the National Housing Corporation reported that the total housing shortage in the country is three million houses and is expected to increase by around 200,000 houses yearly.
