Intel’s recent problems are well-documented. The company’s declining fortunes have meant its reputation and independence were seriously in doubt, and it is not out of the woods yet. However, there are more reasons to be optimistic than pessimistic about Intel’s future. One of those reasons is the company’s planned collaboration with Nvidia, which will see Nvidia invest $5 billion in Intel. That investment comes as the two companies collaborate to jointly develop multiple generations of custom data center and PC products that accelerate applications and workloads across hyperscale, enterprise, and consumer markets. For data centers, Intel will build Nvidia-custom x86 central processing units (CPUs) that Nvidia will integrate into its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure platforms and offer to the market.
Scope
This sector scorecard provides a top-down, comprehensive outlook for the key players in the telecom infrastructure sector over the next two years, based on the key themes set to transform their industry landscape.
Key Highlights
In the previous quarter’s version of the telecom infrastructure sector scorecard, US defense contractor General Dynamics was in second place on the thematic screen, with thematic scores of 4 out of 5 across multiple themes, including 5G, cybersecurity, programmable infrastructure, private networks, and edge computing, and scores of 5 in AI and network infrastructure. The only themes it scored lower were ESG and M&A, where it had scores of 3. In this quarter’s scorecard, General Dynamics’ ESG score is unchanged. Its M&A score, however, has been marked down to 1, reflecting the fact that it is unlikely to be acquired. As a result of that change, General Dynamics has slipped a few places to fifth in our thematic ranking.
Reasons to Buy
Companies that invest in the right themes become success stories. Those that miss the important themes in their industry end up as failures.
GlobalData's thematic research ecosystem is a single, integrated global research platform that provides an easy-to-use framework for tracking all themes across all companies in all sectors. It has a proven track record of identifying the important themes early, enabling companies to make the right investments ahead of the competition and secure that all-important competitive advantage.
GlobalData has developed a unique thematic methodology for ranking all major companies in all major sectors based on their relative strength in the big themes that are impacting their industries.
First, we identify the top 10 themes transforming a sector across four categories (tech, macro, industry, and ESG). We also rank themes in order of priority by examining activity levels across 200 million alternative data signals, including patents, jobs, deals, filings, social media, and news.
Second, we research each theme in detail, examining the value chain, key players, and trends. Additionally, we examine the impact of each theme across the 20 industries we cover. Our 200 million signals help identify the leading adopters of a theme in each sector.
Finally, using our sector scorecards, we rank the companies most likely to succeed in a sector over the next five years.
