UK-based start-ups raised $3.5 billion in VC funding during January 2022, finds GlobalData

A total of 104 venture capital (VC) funding deals were announced in the UK during January 2022, according to GlobalData, which notes that the disclosed funding value of these deals stood at $3.5 billion.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals database reveals that the UK raised the highest amount of funding compared to other European countries. The average size of VC deals announced in the UK during January stood at $33.8 million.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Apart from being the key market in Europe, the UK also remains a major global market for VC firms. The country secured third position in terms of ranking by VC funding value and occupied the fourth position in terms of volume.”

The UK accounted for 5.6% of the total number of VC deals announced globally during January 2022 and held a 6.9% share of the corresponding funding value. GlobalData found that 10 VC deals valued more than or equal to $100 million, which also included one billion dollar deal ($1 billion funding raised by Checkout), were announced in the UK during the month.

Other notable VC funding deals announced during January 2022 in the UK included $295 million raised by o9 Solutions (o9 Platform), $200 million raised by Quick Commerce (Zapp), and $190 million raised by Accelerant Holdings.
