ADHD tops GlobalData list of 10 most mentioned diseases on social media during Q1 2022

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has emerged as the most mentioned disease among the social media conversations of both Twitter influencers and Redditors on the topic ‘diseases’ during the first quarter (Q1) of 2022, according to the Social Media Analytics platform of GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘10 Most Mentioned Diseases on Social Media: Q1 2022’, reveals diabetes, dermatitis/eczema, asthma, Crohn’s disease, lupus, stroke, psoriasis, hypertension and obesity as the remaining most mentioned diseases on social media.

Smitarani Tripathy, Social Media Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “ADHD accounted for 53% share of the total discussions during Q1 2022. Adderall, methylphenidate, and lisdexamfetamine were some leading drugs/therapies mentioned in relation to ADHD.”

Diabetes emerged as the next most mentioned disease among social media discussions, with a 16% share of voice during Q1 2022. Insulin, blood sugar level, and COVID-19 impact were some of the key topics among discussions on diabetes. Dexcom emerged as the most mentioned company among diabetes-related conversations, majorly driven by its monitoring devices, which are used by patients with diabetes.

The highest growth (80%) in social media conversations was observed for ‘Hypertension’, which also witnessed the highest growth in contributors among the top 10 most mentioned diseases during Q1 2022. Some of the trending therapies mentioned in hypertension-related conversations were Adderall, lisinopril, and amlodipine.

The report also reveals the list of the most popular Twitter influencers among disease-related discussions during Q1 2022. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Correspondent at CNN, emerged as the top influencer, followed by Eric Topol, Founder of The Scripps Research, and Jonathan Reiner, Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories.
