Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal adviser by value while Cuatrecasas and Jones Day were the top advisers by volume in the retail sector during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database revealed that Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $1.3 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Cuatrecasas and Jones Day jointly held the top position by volume with each of them advising on a three deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Jones Day showcased improvement in its ranking by volume from the third position in Q1 2023 to the top position in Q1 2024. Meanwhile, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld was the only adviser to surpass $1 billion in total deal value during Q1 2024.”

Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $1 billion worth of deals, followed by Milbank with $1 billion, Vinson & Elkins with $950 million and White & Case with $622.6 million.

Meanwhile, in rankings by volume, Cuatrecasas and Jones Day were followed by Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld with two deals, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison with two deals and White & Case with two deals.
