Apple Inc has posted around 900 jobs in China during January-September 2022*. The Cupertino-based tech giant seems to be looking to hire engineers locally as engineer** related jobs increased by 7% year-on-year from 314 to 335 during January-August 2022, reveals the Job Analytics Database of GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Another notable trend that caught GlobalData’s attention is that Apple is closing the open positions quickly. In 2022, Apple job closures were on the rise compared to the new job postings, leading to a decline in active jobs. The closed job duration in China decreased from around 120 days in July 2022 to 90 days in August 2022.”

Most of the engineer roles in July and August 2022 were for Shanghai, Suzhou, and Shenzhen locations and revolve around artificial intelligence, machine learning, failure analysis. product design, battery quality, touch systems, camera process, packaging, hardware design among others.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Job Analytics Database reveals the key focus area for Apple is to drive revenue growth on the app store by creating and implementing data-driven business strategies and new initiatives such as identifying new app market trends, business opportunities, and key partners to engage with and develop. Apple posted a role for ‘Monetization Manager, Regulatory and Special Projects, App Store’ to take up this task.

Apple’s other focus areas include e-commerce marketplaces, leading marketing strategies across China’s complex media, developing batter pack testing vehicles/installation equipment with third party vendors in China, distribution of Apple services (for example apple music, iCloud etc.) into the telco, retail, travel, and financial services channels.
