Bank of America and Piper Sandler top M&A financial advisers in financial services sector in 2023, reveals GlobalData

Bank of America and Piper Sandler were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial advisers in the financial services sector in 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest financial advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks financial advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.

Based on its Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company reveals that Bank of America achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $28.4 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Piper Sandler led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 30 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Although Bank of America managed to lead by value, it faced close competition from Barclays, which missed the top spot by a whisker. During 2023, Bank of America advised on six billion-dollar deals* that also included one mega deal valued more than $10 billion. Apart from leading by value, Bank of America also occupied the ninth position by volume in the year.

“Meanwhile, Piper Sandler managed to retain its leadership position by volume in 2023 from the previous year. However, it faced close competition from Rothschild & Co for the top spot.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Barclays occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $28.3 billion worth of deals, followed by Jefferies with $23.1 billion, Evercore with $23 billion, and UBS with $21 billion.

Meanwhile, Rothschild & Co occupied the second position in terms of volume with 29 deals, followed by UBS with 24 deals, Stifel/KBW with 23 deals, and Houlihan Lokey with 23 deals.
