Blake Cassels & Graydon and Cassels Brock & Blackwell were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the metals & mining sector during the first half (H1) of 2026 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.
Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading intelligence and productivity platform revealed that Blake Cassels & Graydon achieved the top position in terms of value by advising on $13.8 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Cassels Brock & Blackwell led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 13 deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Cassels Brock & Blackwell saw a 44.4% increase in the total number of deals advised by in H1 2026 compared to H1 2025. Resultantly, its ranking by volume improved from second place to the top spot. It also occupied the second position in terms of value.
“The total value of deals advised by Blake Cassels & Graydon also increased by more than three-fold, resulting in an improvement in its ranking from the third position by value in H1 2025 to the top spot in H1 2026. It advised on five billion-dollar deals* in H1 2026, and involvement in these big-ticket deals helped it register a massive jump in total deal value. Blake Cassels & Graydon also occupied the third position in terms of volume.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Cassels Brock & Blackwell occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $13.1 billion worth of deals, followed by Fasken Martineau DuMoulin with $12.1 billion, McCarthy Tetrault with $12 billion, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison with $11.4 billion.
Meanwhile, McCarthy Tetrault occupied the second position in terms of volume with 13 deals, followed by Blake Cassels & Graydon with 12 deals, Fasken Martineau DuMoulin with 11 deals, and A&O Shearman with six deals.
