BMO Capital Markets was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial adviser in the metals & mining sector during the first half (H1) of 2026 by both value and volume, according to the latest financial advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks financial advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.
Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading intelligence and productivity platform has revealed that BMO Capital Markets achieved the top position by advising on 13 deals worth $17.9 billion.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “BMO Capital Markets was the top adviser by both metrics in H1 2025 and managed to retain its leadership positions in H1 2026 as well. It registered year-on-year improvement in terms of deal volume and value, but the growth was more prominent in value, with more than a four-fold jump. In H1 2026, BMO Capital Markets advised on five billion-dollar deals* and its involvement in these big-ticket deals helped it register a massive jump in terms of value.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Goldman Sachs occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $15 billion worth of deals, followed by Bank of Nova Scotia with $10.8 billion, RBC Capital Markets with $10.4 billion, and National Bank of Canada with $8.4 billion.
Meanwhile, Canaccord Genuity Group occupied the second position in terms of volume with eight deals, followed by Moelis & Company with seven deals, Goldman Sachs with six deals, and Bank of Nova Scotia with five deals.
