Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and White & Case were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the automotive sector during the first three quarters (Q1-Q3) of 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.
Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company reveals that Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton achieved the leading position in terms of value by advising on $2 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, White & Case led in terms of volume by advising on a total of five deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “White & Case witnessed growth in the number of deals advised by it during Q1-Q3 2023 compared to Q1-Q3 2022. It’s ranking by volume also improved from 19th place in Q1-Q3 2022 to the top position in Q1-Q3 2023.
“Similarly, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton also registered a massive jump in the total value of deals advised by it, and resultantly, its ranking by value also improved significantly in Q1-Q3 2023 compared to Q1-Q3 2022.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Sullivan & Cromwell occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $1.3 billion worth of deals, followed by Gleiss Lutz with $1.1 billion, Galicia Abogados SC with $1.1 billion, and Clifford Chance with $700 million.
Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis occupied the second position in terms of volume with four deals, followed by Jones Day with four deals, while Advokatfirman Vinge, CMS and Latham & Watkins jointly occupied the fourth position by volume, with each of them advising on three deals.
