Clifford Chance and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in South and Central America during the first half (H1) of 2024 by value and volume, respectively according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database has revealed that Clifford Chance achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $6.7 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett led in terms of volume by advising on a total of five deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Clifford Chance registered a massive jump in the total value of deals advised by it during H1 2024 compared to H1 2023. Consequently, its ranking in the value chart also took a big leap from 29th position in H1 2023 to the top spot in H1 2024. Involvement in the $5.8 billion Brookfield-Neoen acquisition deal announced in May 2024 was pivotal for Clifford Chance in experiencing this massive jump.”

“Meanwhile, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s ranking by volume also improved from 16th position in H1 2023 to the top position in H1 2024.”

McCarthy Tetrault occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $6 billion worth of deals, followed by White & Case with $1.3 billion, Barros & Errazuriz Abogados with $1.3 billion, and Alcaino Abogados with $1.3 billion.

Meanwhile, Posse Herrera & Ruiz Abogados occupied the second position in terms of volume with four deals, followed by Barros & Errazuriz Abogados with three deals, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with three deals, and DLA Piper with three deals.
