Companies discussing ‘green technology’ in their filings increased by 5% in 2022, finds GlobalData

More than 2,400 companies discussed ‘green technology’ in their filings in 2022 amid climate change concerns and growing energy costs, according to GlobalData. The leading and data analytics company notes that this represents an increase of around 5% from 2021.

Misa Singh, Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Companies discussed a wide range of clean energy solutions, including photovoltaic walls and solar power, hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs), electrified transport solutions, renewable energy, and low carbon.”

Analysis of GlobalData’s Company Filing Analytics Database reveals that the key industries discussing green technology include banking & payments, oil & gas, technology, and construction.

In the banking & payments industry, Close Brothers Group mentioned financing hybrid and electric vehicles in its motor finance business. Another company, Orient Securities, oversaw the circulation of the first exchangeable corporate bond for green technology innovation in China, issued by China Three Gorges Corporation. Meanwhile, Sparebanken Vest has designated NOK 200 ($20.023531) million for projects that support sustainability, innovative green technology, and green restructuring.

Saipem SpA, an oil & gas company, mentioned emission reduction and focused on growing green technologies such as hydrogen, CO2 treatment, marine wind, bio-refineries, subsea robotics, and innovative integrated model solutions. Meanwhile, Pondy Oxides and Chemicals and ACE Green Recycling signed a $2 million deal for the supply of equipment and licensing to build the largest greenhouse gas (GHG) emission-free battery recycling facility in the world in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Hitachi, a technology company, is investing in hydrogen, methanation, and direct air capture (DAC). Meanwhile, MphasiS is investing in solar plants, while Celestica is investing in energy generation and storage, as well as market expansion for electric vehicles. These investments will support demand for EV charging installations over the coming years.

In the construction industry, China Vanke discussed introducing different green technologies such as intelligent energy systems, reclaimed water, and rainwater utilization for improving water management. Another company, China Jinmao, mentioned developing the Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) technology.
