Fastly’s sharp boost in job adverts driven by expansion plans and vulnerability management, finds GlobalData

The number of jobs advertised by Fastly, a cloud computing services provider, increased to over 100 posts in October 2021, according to GlobalData. The leading data and analytics company’s Job Analytics Database found that the company focused the majority of its hiring in the US and the UK. Listings in the UK surged to a high of 22 during the month, while US-based advertised positions doubled from 15 in September to 35 in October.

Ajay Thalluri, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, says: “Fastly’s sharp boost in job adverts suggests that the company is planning to expand its operations in the Europe and Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions, as well as strengthen its presence in the South East Asia (SEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions. Additionally, Fastly is looking to support its vulnerability and asset management program (VAMP), besides build and maintain runbooks for vulnerability management.”

Fastly listed multiple sales and marketing specialists, software and cloud engineers, and key senior-level roles during October. Additionally, the company advertised various senior sales director roles in the US, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. These roles suggest that the company is looking to develop, manage and execute a go-to-market plan. Also, multiple positions for a ‘Senior Product Marketing Manager’ for the EMEA region, alongside a ‘Senior Recruiter – EMEA’ role were listed based out of the UK that show the company is looking to hire revenue and client services teams across the EMEA region.

Fastly is also expanding in the SEA and APAC regions, having listed roles based out of Japan and Singapore. The company is accelerating market penetration by building on its sales network. An October 2021 role for ‘AVP Sales – SE Asia’ will see Fastly strengthen sales across this region. The company is also hiring customer-facing transport layer security (TLS) infrastructure, channel partners, and support engineers in the APAC region.

Thalluri adds: “Fastly has been developing its platform since it was hit by a global outage in June 2021 that caused disruption for several of its top users’ websites, including Amazon and Spotify. The company’s recent hiring activity suggests that it is looking to understand the vulnerability lifecycle and provide solutions based on internal and external reports.”

A November 2021 listing for a ‘Senior Vulnerability Engineer’ requires the applicant to implement and improve Fastly’s VAMP program. Fastly is also designing and operating a security risk management program as evidenced by its ‘Director, Security Risk Management’ role.

Thalluri concludes: “Fastly could maintain its hiring momentum as it looks to expand into new regions. An October 2021 listing for ‘Vice President, Global Accounting Operations’ hints that the company will recruit new talent. Fastly also listed its first ‘Chief of Staff – Trust’ role, which will look at operational excellence, increasing overall effectiveness through data governance and strategic procurement, among others.”
