GlobalData’s US Active Jobs Index declined 7.8% month-on-month (MoM) in September 2022, while maintaining a healthy 47% increase over pre-COVID-19 numbers. GlobalData’s Active Jobs Index is predicting a similar trajectory to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) job openings index.

Srinivas Rahul, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “September 2022 saw an 8% decline in new job postings MoM, with industries such as banking & payments, travel & tourism, and technology posting fewer jobs. Interestingly, industries such as consumer and construction posted more jobs. Notable companies include CDM Smith, Black & Veatch, JBS, and Unibel.”
Over 150 jobs were posted for newly created roles in September 2022. These include ‘Director – Real Estate Technology’ by Visa; ‘NA Supply Chain Delivery Finance Manager (New Consumer Health Company)’ from Actelion Pharmaceuticals; and ‘Methods and Technology Manager (Hybrid)’ by Raytheon Technologies Corp.
Rahul adds: “While companies remained cautious about hiring, several companies also announced layoffs. For instance, Mercedes-Benz Group laid off 3,600 employees after restructuring its truck and bus chassis operations in Brazil. The Goldman Sachs Group, AbbVie Inc, Netflix, PVH Corp, and Wells Fargo & Co also announced layoffs.”
