India has demonstrated notable resilience and growth in venture capital (VC) funding activity from January to August 2025. The country has witnessed an increase in both deal volume and value, further solidifying itself as a key player in the global VC arena. The total number of VC deals announced in India increased by 11% during January-August 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, while the corresponding funding value was up by 14% year-on-year (YoY), according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “This growth trend is particularly impressive when compared to the global VC funding landscape, which has experienced a decline in deal volume during the same period. Though the US continues to lead in global VC funding, it saw a decline in deal volume. China also registered decline in VC funding value whereas the UK experienced decline in terms of both deal volume and value. India’s upward trend could also be a signal of a shift in focus towards emerging markets.”

The growth reflects an increasing confidence of investors in the country’s startup ecosystem, which could be attributed to a combination of factors, including a favorable regulatory environment, a growing consumer base, and an increasing number of tech-savvy entrepreneurs and consumers.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database revealed that India accounted for around 8% of the total number of VC deals announced globally during January-August 2025 whereas its share of global value stood at 4%.

Bose concludes: “India’s VC funding landscape is evolving rapidly, and the growth in both deal volume and value is a clear indication of the country’s potential as a startup hub. This growth also highlights the increasing maturity of the country’s startup landscape, where innovative solutions and disruptive technologies are attracting investors’ interest. This trend is likely to continue as the ecosystem matures and more innovations emerge.”
