- Job listings reduce 2% MoM in November 2021
- Metaverse listings jump five-fold since October 2021
- Jobs offering sign-on bonuses continue to rise
The number of job advertisements listed in November worldwide continued to decline, according to GlobalData, who noted drops in key regions such as North America (3% decline), the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region (2%) and Europe (2%). The leading data and analytics company highlights that, despite the general slowdown, the tech space saw a rise in job posts, as businesses looked to get ahead in metaverse development. Interestingly, job listings with sign-on bonus continued to be upbeat.
Ajay Thalluri, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, says: “The number of new job posts declined by 2% month-on-month (MoM), likely in part due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases. For example, COVID-19 cases were high in countries such as France and the UK, and these countries contracted listings.

“Concern in the pandemic can also be seen in the rise in precautions such as mandatory staff vaccinations. November saw the highest number of job listings that require job applicants to be ‘fully vaccinated’ with two doses – over 97,000 posts in November 2021 when compared to 61,309 posts in October 2021. Most companies specified a candidate would need to be vaccinated before starting work, while some set deadlines. For instance, Leidos Holdings set a deadline of January 18, 2022; while Old Mutual marked March 1, 2022.”

The tech sector was helping keep job postings afloat due to a growth in metaverse-related job postings, rising from 77 in October 2021 to over 400 in November 2021.
Thalluri continues: “Job listings in metaverse-associated themes such as virtual and augmented reality have gained traction this month. Roblox Corporation continues to dominate listings in this emerging space, while Stifel Financial Corp, Amazon Web Services, BMW, Intel Corp, and NVIDIA are jumping on the bandwagon.”
Interestingly, luxury fashion brand LVMH is planning to use the metaverse as part of its content and advertising strategy. Pure play companies such as IMVU and Backed and are hiring to build ‘real-time universes’. Meanwhile, tech major Samsung Electronics is looking to attract Gen Z and millennials with metaverse offerings, as well as shape how customers experience the Samsung 837 showroom – as shown by the ‘Senior Director of Brand Social & Experiential’ advertisement. In the media space, ITV is creating a ‘metavision’ studio and agency venture to strategize metaverse for brands and entertainment companies.

A growing number of job adverts offering sign-on bonuses is seen in sectors such as financial services, technology and media, industrial goods and machinery, and travel and tourism.
Thalluri adds: “A robust number of listings offering a sign-on bonus was recorded in November 2021. Examples include Hilton Worldwide Holdings, which listed 1,355 jobs in 2021 that included sign-on bonuses (compared to just 41 jobs in 2020). Meanwhile, companies such as Air Methods Corp are offering up to $10,000 hiring bonuses.”
