The number of active job advertisements for positions at aviation company John Menzies more than doubled from 113 in November 2020 to 399 in November 2021*, according to the jobs analytics database by GlobalData. The leading data and analytics company notes that this ramp up in hires will help John Menzies meet the increase in demand for ground handling tasks at airports, while the recruitment of veterans will help support its various military platforms.

Ajay Thalluri, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “With most airlines now operating at full capacity, companies such as John Menzies will be looking to make sure their ground crew is up to full complement. The company’s job closures were high through October 2021 which is indicative of more job placements.”

Menzies is one of the companies offering a sign-on bonus as an incentive to new hires. GlobalData found that roles across all industries offering a sign-on bonus have increased by a whopping 454% amid staff shortages.

Thalluri continues: “Menzies is offering sign-on bonuses of around $1,500, as well as providing a $2,000 referral bonus. This lucrative cash incentive is for most entry and mid-level jobs in Canada and the US.”

Menzies plans to stabilize its workforce of 12,000 employees in the Americas, reduce costs and create consistency in key areas such as talent and successions, as evidenced by its ‘SVP Human Resources’ role. Multiple listings for a ‘Talent Acquisition Specialist/Supervisor’ role shows the company plans to strategize and decrease attrition by a minimum of 10% compared to the previous year.

Further, with the holiday season right around the corner, Menzies is hiring to meet the shipping requirements of companies such as United Parcel Service (UPS), while at the same time expanding in Australia and the Central and South America regions. A recent listing for ‘HR Manager N.W Australia’ will help it manage the recruitment process in Australia. Meanwhile, John Menzies is looking to ensure operational delivery of $50m revenue from its airline customer base in the Central and South America regions, as evidenced by its ‘Senior Vice President, Central & South America’ role.

Menzies won a tender in August 2021 to provide ground services for Virgin Australia and has advertized roles related to this tender. Also, the company agreed to acquire a 51% stake in Interexpresso, which could provide a major fillip to its expansion plans in Central and South America.

Thalluri adds: “Menzies listed a role for a ‘General Manager – Cargo Operations’ in September 2021 to ensure means for proper staffing and pursue opportunities for new business and growth of existing services. The company is strengthening expansion plans on its cargo handling business – especially in new and growing markets.”
