Jones Day and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the power sector during the first half (H1) of 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.
Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company has revealed that Jones Day achieved the leading position in terms of value by advising on $11.2 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 18 deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Although Kirkland & Ellis led by volume, it faced very close competition from Clifford Chance for the top position. Meanwhile, Jones Day was the clear winner as it was the only firm with more than $10 billion total deal value.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Clifford Chance occupied the second position in terms of volume with 17 deals, followed by CMS with 15 deals, Dentons with 14 deals, and White & Case with 13 deals.
Meanwhile, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $7.5 billion worth of deals, followed by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with $7.4 billion, Baker McKenzie with $6.2 billion, and Kirkland & Ellis with $5.4 billion.
