Jones Day and Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal advisers by value and volume in power sector in Q1 2023, finds GlobalData

Jones Day and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the power sector in Q1 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.

Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company reveals that Jones Day achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $11.2 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led in terms of volume by advising on a total of nine deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Kirkland & Ellis led by volume and also occupied the 10th position by value. Meanwhile, Jones Day, despite advising on a relatively lesser number of deals compared to Kirkland & Ellis, managed to top the chart by value due to its involvement in high-value transactions. Jones Day advised on two billion-dollar deals* during Q1 2023, which also included one deal valued more than $5 billion. Interestingly, it was the only adviser to surpass $10 billion mark in total deal value during the quarter.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $7.5 billion worth of deals, followed by Allen & Overy with $4.3 billion, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with $3.5 billion, and Latham & Watkins with $3.2 billion.

Meanwhile, Watson Farley & Williams occupied the second position in terms of volume with nine deals, followed by White & Case with eight deals, Clifford Chance with seven deals, and CMS with seven deals.
