JP Morgan and Houlihan Lokey have emerged as the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial advisers by value and volume globally during the first half (H1) of 2024 in the latest Financial Advisers League Table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database has revealed that JP Morgan achieved the leading position in terms of deal value by advising on $236.6 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Houlihan Lokey led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 119 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “JP Morgan registered significant improvement in the total value of deals advised by it during H1 2024 compared to H1 2023. It was the only adviser to surpass $200 billion* during the review period. The involvement in big-ticket deals helped JP Morgan to register growth in terms of value and occupy the top position by this metric. JP Morgan advised on 44 billion-dollar deals* during H1 2024 that also included seven mega deals valued more than $10 billion.

“Meanwhile, Houlihan Lokey was among the only two advisers that managed to touch triple-digit deal volume in H1 2024. Although Houlihan Lokey led in terms of volume, it faced tough competition from Rothschild & Co, which missed the top spot by a whisker.”

Rothschild & Co occupied the second position in terms of volume by advising on 118 deals followed by Goldman Sachs with 88 deals, Jefferies with 79 deals and UBS with 78 deals.

Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $198.1 billion worth of deals, followed by Morgan Stanley with $177.8 billion, Evercore with $167 billion and Citi with $118.6 billion.
