Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal adviser in technology, media and telecom sector in 2023

Kirkland & Ellis was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal adviser in the technology, media and telecom (TMT) sector in 2023 by both value and volume, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Kirkland & Ellis achieved this leading position by advising on 121 deals worth $144.1 billion.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Kirkland & Ellis was the only adviser with triple-digit deal volume in 2023. The firm has continued to dominate the TMT M&A landscape by volume and it is noteworthy that Kirkland & Ellis was also the top adviser by volume in 2022.

“Kirkland & Ellis also managed to solidify its position in terms of value in 2023 with its ranking by this metric taking a major leap from 11th position in 2022 to the top position in 2023. It advised on a total 24 billion-dollar deals* during the year that included four mega deals valued more than $10 billion.”

Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $109.4 billion worth of deals, followed by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with $81.2 billion, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett with $79.6 billion and Cravath Swaine & Moore with $62.3 billion.

Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins also occupied the second position in terms of volume with 69 deals, followed by White & Case with 66 deals, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati with 59 deals and Baker McKenzie with 58 deals.
