Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal advisers in construction sector in 2023, reveals GlobalData

Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the construction sector in 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.

Based on its Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company reveals that Latham & Watkins achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $33.6 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 29 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Kirkland & Ellis was the top adviser by volume in 2022 and also managed to retain its leadership position by this metric in 2023 as well. Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins registered a significant improvement in its ranking by value from 18th position in 2022 to top the chart in 2023, driven by its involvement in big-ticket deals. It advised on six billion-dollar deals* in 2023 that also included a mega deal valued more than $10 billion.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Cravath Swaine & Moore occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $29.2 billion worth of deals, followed by Hogan Lovells with $28.4 billion, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan with $27 billion, and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz with $24.2 billion.

Meanwhile, CMS occupied the second position in terms of volume with 25 deals, followed by Baker McKenzie with 18 deals, Latham & Watkins with 15 deals, and White & Case with 13 deals.
