Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal advisers by value and volume in power sector in 2022

Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the power sector in 2022 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.

Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company has revealed that Latham & Watkins achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $37.9 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led by volume by advising on a total of 54 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Both Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis witnessed significant growth in total deals volume and value as well as improvement in respective rankings by these metrics. While Kirkland & Ellis was the only firm to advise on more than 50 deals in 2022, Latham & Watkins was also the adviser that managed to surpass $30 billion in total deal value.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Cravath Swaine & Moore occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $25.8 billion worth of deals, followed by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett with $22.9 billion, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer with $19.2 billion, and Davis Polk & Wardwell with $14.9 billion.

Meanwhile, White & Case occupied the second position in terms of volume with 43 deals, followed by CMS with 40 deals, Latham & Watkins with 33 deals, and Watson Farley & Williams with 31 deals.
