Morgan Stanley and Ernst & Young were the top M&A financial advisers by value and volume in the financial services sector for Q1 2022, finds GlobalData

Morgan Stanley and Ernst & Young have secured the top spots by value and volume, respectively, in the financial services sector in Q1 2022, according to the latest Financial Advisers League Table by GlobalData. The leading data and analytics company’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Morgan Stanley achieved the top ranking by value by advising on $25.9 billion worth of M&A deals. Meanwhile, Ernst & Young led by volume, having advised on a total of 16 deals.

According to GlobalData’s report, ‘Global and Financial Services M&A Report Financial Adviser League Tables Q1 2022’, a total of 926 M&A deals worth $96.4 billion were announced in the sector during Q1 2022.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Ernst & Young, despite topping the chart by volume, lagged behind its peers in terms of value and did not feature in the top 10 list by value.

“On the other hand, Morgan Stanley, despite advising on a fewer number of deals, managed to top by value due to its involvement in big-ticket deals. The firm advised on four billion-dollar deals* that also included one deal valued more than $10 billion.”

Analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals other high rankers by value included JP Morgan, with deals worth $24.4 billion; Goldman Sachs, with $22.1 billion; TD Securities, with $13.8 billion; and Credit Suisse, with $5.8 billion. By volume, Stifel/KBW occupied the second position, with 14 deals; followed by Piper Sandler, with 12 deals; JP Morgan, with 11 deals and Houlihan Lokey with 11 deals.

*Valued more than or equal to $1 billion.
