Following OpenAI’s first job postings in India;
Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers her view:
“OpenAI’s decision to list its first-ever India openings for three distinct Account Director roles, “Digital Natives, Large Enterprise, and Strategics,” signals a strategic push to deepen market presence and strengthen customer engagement in the fast-evolving artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, while also underscoring its long-term revenue growth ambitions.
“What makes the move even more interesting is that the timing of these job postings coincide with OpenAI’s launch of an entry-level subscription plan for India at INR399 to make its advanced AI features more accessible.
“Now with Account Director job postings, the company seems to be focusing on revenue growth in India, which is an emerging market for AI. It is also interesting to note that India was a hubspot for GenAI job postings in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.
“With ChatGPT’s active users surging and India ranking among the world’s top developer markets, the country is evolving from a passive consumer base to an active engine of AI innovation and adoption. These hirings could be seen as a way forward to establish OpenAI’s formal presence in the promising market.
“An analysis of GlobalData’s Jobs Database reveals that each role emphasizes managing a portfolio of accounts and also includes ownership of revenue targets, which is indicative of OpenAI’s strategy to build long-term associations that could contribute to sustained revenue growth. OpenAI seems to be positioning itself to capitalize on the growing demand for AI solutions in India, ultimately contributing to the company’s long-term success and sustainability in the market.”
