Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal advisers by value and volume in consumer sector for H1 2022, finds GlobalData

Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the consumer sector for H1 2022 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest Legal Advisers League Table by GlobalData.

Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company has revealed that Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison achieved its leading position by value by advising on $22 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led by volume by advising on a total of 28 deals.

According to GlobalData’s report, ‘Global and Consumer M&A Report Legal Adviser League Tables H1 2022’, a total of 1,981 M&A deals worth $152.2 billion were announced in the sector during H1 2022.

Bose comments: “Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, which advised on one-fourth of the number of deals advised by Kirkland & Ellis, managed to top by value due to its involvement in big-ticket deals. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison advised on four billion-dollar deals (≥ $1 billion), while Kirkland & Ellis advised on one such deal.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Davis Polk & Wardwell occupied the second position by value by advising on $21.8 billion worth of deals, followed by  Latham & Watkins with $19.9 billion, DLA Piper with $18.5 billion, and Clifford Chance with $18.2 billion.

Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of volume with 22 deals, followed by Jones Day with 16 deals, DLA Piper with 14 deals, and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with 12 deals.
