Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the technology, media, and telecom (TMT) sector in 2022 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData.

Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company has revealed that Simpson Thacher & Bartlett achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $217.7 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati led in volume terms by advising on a total of 204 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Both Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati were clear winners by value and volume in 2022, respectively.

“While Simpson Thacher & Bartlett was the only adviser that managed to surpass $200 billion total deal value mark, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati was also the only firm that managed to advise on more than 200 deals.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $181.9 billion worth of deals, followed by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with $163.2 billion, Sullivan & Cromwell with $143.5 billion, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati with $122.9 billion.

Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis occupied the second position in terms of volume with 192 deals, followed by Latham & Watkins with 140 deals, Willkie Farr & Gallagher with 132 deals, and CMS with 109 deals.
