Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal advisers for Q1-Q3 2022, finds GlobalData

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisition (M&A) legal advisers by value and volume in Q1-Q3 2022, respectively, according to the latest Legal Advisers League Table by GlobalData.

According to the leading data and analytics company’s Financial Deals Database, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett achieved its leading position by value by advising on deals worth $371 billion, while Kirkland & Ellis topped the volume rankings by advising on a total of 599 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis were far ahead of their peers in terms of value and volume, respectively. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett advised on nine mega deals valued more than $10 billion, becoming the only firm to surpass the $300 billion mark in total deal value. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis was just shy of one deal to touch the 600 deals volume mark during Q1-Q3 2022.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom occupied the second position by value by advising on $296 billion worth of deals, followed by Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz with $277 billion, Latham & Watkins with $242 billion and Kirkland & Ellis with $241 billion.

Latham & Watkins occupied the second position by volume by advising on 369 deals, followed by Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati with 345 deals, CMS with 307 deals, and Jones Day with 265 deals.
