Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the construction sector for H1 2022 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest Legal Advisers League Table by GlobalData.

Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company has revealed that Simpson Thacher & Bartlett achieved its leading position by value by advising on $74 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led by volume by advising on a total of 19 deals.

According to GlobalData’s report, ‘Global and Construction M&A Report Legal Adviser League Tables H1 2022’, a total of 2,171 M&A deals worth $256 billion were announced in the sector during H1 2022.

Bose comments: “Simpson Thacher & Bartlett was the only adviser with a total deal value worth more than $50 billion in H1 2022 as it advised on six billion-dollar deals (≥ $1 billion), which also included two mega deals valued more than $10 billion. Moreover, it occupied the fifth position by volume. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis, apart from leading by volume, also occupied the ninth position by value.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson occupied the second position by value, by advising on $45.8 billion worth of deals, followed by  Alston & Bird with $43.9 billion. Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier Avocats, Gatti Pavesi Bianchi Ludovici and Legance – Avvocati Associati jointly occupied the fourth position by advising on $39.5 billion worth of deals.

Meanwhile, Baker McKenzie occupied the second position in terms of volume with 13 deals, followed by CMS with 12 deals, and Clifford Chance with nine deals.
