Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and Kirkland & Ellis have secured the top spots by value and volume in Q1 2022 on the latest Legal Advisers League Table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the respective value and number of mergers and acquisition (M&A) deals on which they advised.
According to the leading data and analytics company’s Financial Deals Database, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom achieved its top ranking by value by advising on $144 billion worth of M&A deals, just ahead of Simpson, Thatcher and Bartlett at $116 billion and Kirkland and Ellis at $102 billion. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led by volume, having advised on 212 deals, much ahead of competitors Latham and Watkins at 121 deals and CMS at 103 deals.

They were among only three advisors that surpassed total deal values over $100 billion. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom advised on four mega-deals**, which included one deal valued more than $50 billion.

Analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals other high rankers by value included Weil Gotshal & Manges, which occupied fourth position with a total deal worth of $92 billion, followed by Latham & Watkins with $68 billion. By volume, high rankers included Jones Day, with 94 deals, and Goodwin Procter, with 92 deals.
