Unicorn companies continued to create buzz in social media conversations in 2022, with various ups and downs led by business disruption, innovation, and product diversification, while the concern of global recession was a hindrance. In this context, Space Exploration Technologies Corp (SpaceX) has emerged as the most mentioned company among the top 10 trending unicorns on Twitter with 37,800 mentions in 2022, reveals the Social Media Analytics Platform of GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

SpaceX (37,800 Tweets | 3,670 Influencers)

SpaceX, the rocket manufacturer and satellite internet company with a valuation of $137 billion, was the most cited unicorn company among the Twitter influencers in 2022. In October, SpaceX Crew-4 successfully returned from the ISS mission which led to the highest spike in influencer discussions. Influencers are of the opinion that research and innovation will be beneficial on and off the earth while preparing humans for future space exploration missions. Another rise in conversation was driven by the termination of an employee of SpaceX in June, who criticized CEO Elon Musk’s behavior in an open letter.

Ozone Networks Inc (12,160 Tweets | 1,700 Influencers)

Ozone Networks Inc, trading as OpenSea, was the second most talked unicorn company in 2022, with more than 300% year-on-year increase in discussions among Twitter influencers. The highest rise in conversations was noticed in February when the company reported a phishing attack resulting in $1.7 million worth of NFTs stolen. Few influencers opine that self-custody and anti-phishing infrastructure are the most required things for digital platforms.

BlockFi Inc (7,150 Tweets | 1,100 Influencers)

Conversations about BlockFi soared by more than 200% in 2022, when the cryptocurrency lender filed for bankruptcy protection after the crypto exchange FTX collapse. BlockFi had more than $300 million worth of cryptocurrencies frozen on FTX.

Other key unicorns cited include Ripple Labs Inc, Uniswap, Celsius Network Ltd, Maplebear Inc, Epic Games Inc, BharatPe, and Hugging Face Inc.

Open Financial Technologies Pvt Ltd, One97 Communications Ltd and Inc42 Media were the most mentioned Indian unicorns. Influencer discussions spiked around Open, following the company’s announcement about being the 100th Indian startup to have entered the unicorn category. Open is Asia’s first neo-banking platform for SMEs and startups.”
