Sullivan & Cromwell and Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the South & Central American region by value and volume, respectively, during the first three quarters (Q1-Q3) of 2023, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Sullivan & Cromwell achieved the leading position in terms of value by advising on $16.5 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 14 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice witnessed an increase in the number of deals advised by it during Q1-Q3 2023 compared to Q1-Q3 2022. It went ahead from occupying the second position by volume in Q1-Q3 2022 to top the chart by this metric in Q1-Q3 2023.

“Meanwhile, Sullivan & Cromwell was among the only two advisers that managed to surpass $10 billion in total deal value during Q1-Q3 2023. Two of the three deals advised by Sullivan & Cromwell during Q1-Q3 2023 were billion-dollar deals* that also included one mega deal valued more than $10 billion. Involvement in these big-ticket deals helped Sullivan & Cromwell occupy the top spot by value.”

Appleby Global Group occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $13.3 billion worth of deals, followed by Kirkland & Ellis with $5.8 billion, Debevoise & Plimpton with $5.4 billion, and Cravath Swaine & Moore with $4.3 billion.

Meanwhile, Demarest Advogados occupied the second position in terms of volume with 11 deals, followed by Bronstein, Zilberberg, Chueiri & Potenza Advogados with 11 deals, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with 10 deals, and Lefosse Advogados with eight deals.
