Research by GlobalData has revealed that venture capital (VC) funding deal value has increased to $16.5 billion in the first half (H1) of 2022, which represents an impressive 21.5% rise verses H1 2021. The leading data and analytics company notes that this was supported by improved VC deal activity in June.

The research, which was conducted using GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database also highlights that there was a total 960 VC funding deals announced in the UK during H1 2022.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “One reason this growth in VC funding value is noteworthy is that we saw such strong year-on-year (YoY) growth even though the number of deals decreased by 3.1%. Deal activity has been fluctuating in the UK in 2022, with value declining during some of the months, but June managed to register a massive 43.9% growth in value and 8.2% growth in deal volume verses May 2022.

“UK-based startups managed to make some good traction with investors in June, which also reflects improved VC funding activity during the month. The UK seems to be in a relatively better position for VC funding activity, compared to other global markets such as the US, which witnessed a 21.7% decline in total funding value in H1 2022 compared to H1 2021 amid volatile market conditions.”

Some notable VC funding deals announced during H1 2022 in the UK included $1 billion raised by Checkout; $377 million raised by Bloom Financial Group; $295 million raised by o9 Solutions; $220 million funding raised by Multiverse; and $200 million funding raised by Paddle.com.
