The US held the lion’s share of the global venture capital (VC) funding landscape and accounted for 38.7% and 46.2% of the total number of deals announced globally during Q1 2022 and the corresponding deal value, respectively, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database found that a total of 3,029 VC funding deals were announced in the US between January and March 2022, while the disclosed funding value of these deals stood at $69.7 billion.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Though the US accounted for the highest VC funding deals by value and volume globally, deal activity in the country declined in Q1 2022 compared to Q1 2021. VC deals in volume terms witnessed a 6.9% decline in Q1 2022 compared to Q1 2021, while the corresponding deal value decreased by 9.5%.
“The setback experienced in VC funding activity in the US in Q1 2022 over Q1 2021 could be attributed to a dent in deal-making sentiments due to volatile market conditions and uncertainty amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.”
Some of the notable VC funding deals announced in the US during Q1 2022 included $935 million of funding raised by Flexport, $620 million raised by CRB Group, $550 million raised by Fireblocks, $517.8 million raised by Eikon Therapeutics, and around $500 million raised by AvantStay.
