The US gained the highest amount of venture capital (VC) funding for start-up companies in January, according to GlobalData—reaching a total of US$22.1 billion. The leading data and analytics company notes that 641 VC funding deals were announced in the country, with an average value of US$34.5 million. The US accounted for 34.2% of total global deal volume and 43.3% of total deal value during January 2022.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The US has remained the world’s favorite investment destination for VC firms. No other country comes close to receiving the level of funding seen by the US.”

The US is very distantly followed by China (12.7% share of total funding value globally), the UK (6.9%), and India (6.3). China was responsible for 16.2% of deal volume in January, while the UK represented 5.6%, and India was 8.2%.

Bose continues: “VC firms were betting big in the US, with the country seeing 62 VC deals announced that were valued more than or equal to US$100 million. Some noteworthy VC funding deals announced during January 2022 in the US included the US$550 million funding raised by Fireblocks; the US$517.8 million raised by Eikon Therapeutics; the US$450 million raised by Wisk Aero; and the US$400 million funding raised by Plenty Unlimited.”
