Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the consumer sector for Q1 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Weil, Gotshal & Manges achieved the top position in terms of value by advising on $3.3 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison led in terms of volume by advising on a total of four deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison registered improvement in deals volume as well as its ranking by this metric. It went ahead from settling at 57th position by volume in Q1 2022 to lead the table in Q1 2023. Similarly, Weil, Gotshal & Manges also saw its ranking by value improving from 84th position in Q1 2022 to the top position in Q1 2023.”

White & Case occupied the second position in terms of value by advising on $2.8 billion worth of deals, followed by Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison with $2.8 billion and Arnold & Porter with $2.8 billion. Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins jointly occupied the fifth position by value with each advising on $1.3 billion worth of deals.

Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins jointly occupied the second position in terms of volume by advising on four deals each, followed by Willkie Farr & Gallagher with four deals, and Allen & Overy with three deals.
