White & Case, Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal advisers by value, volume in consumer sector in H1 2023, reveals GlobalData

White & Case and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the consumer sector during the first half (H1) of 2023 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest Legal Advisers League Table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that White & Case achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $4 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 18 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “White & Case was leading the league table by value. The firm advised on nine deals including a deal valued at $2.8 billion, which played a crucial role in securing the top position by value. White & Case also saw its ranking improve from 14th position by value in H1 2022 to the top position in H1 2023.

“Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis was the top adviser by volume in H1 2022 and was also able to retain its leadership position by this metric in H1 2023. It was short of only two deals from hitting 20 deals volume mark.”

Weil, Gotshal & Manges occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $3.3 billion worth of deals, followed by Davis Polk & Wardwell with $3.1 billion, Latham & Watkins with $2.8 billion, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison with $2.8 billion.

Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of volume with 12 deals, followed by CMS with 12 deals, White & Case with nine deals, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges with seven deals.
