Asia-Pacific (APAC) is witnessing a rising disease burden of stomach cancer and gastroesophageal reflux disease, driven by changing lifestyles, dietary patterns, and increasing obesity rates. GlobalData’s latest report, “Gastroscopes Market Size by Segments, Share, Regulatory, Reimbursement, Interventions, Installed Base and Forecast to 2036,” reveals that APAC accounted for around 30% of the global gastroscopes market in 2025 and held the second largest share after Europe.
In a recent development, Ainex Corporation, a Korea-based company specializing in AI-powered gastrointestinal endoscopy, announced an agreement with Singapore’s National University Hospital (NUH) to supply ENAD (Endoscopy as AI-powered device), a real-time AI-based software solution for upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. It is the only AI-assisted solution to have received approval from both South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA).
Priyanka Chakraborty, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Early gastric cancer is often asymptomatic, making early detection and treatment crucial for improving survival rates, especially in Asia, where incidence is highest. Endoscopy is the main tool for early detection, and AI-driven endoscopy software can further enhance care by using real-world data to deliver faster, more standardized image analysis, flagging subtle abnormalities that may otherwise get overlooked, increasing diagnostic confidence, and streamlining reporting and patient management.”
ENAD will be deployed across all endoscopy units at NUH Singapore, and the partnership will also expand clinical research aimed at improving the AI system for early gastric cancer detection and developing additional tools for identifying conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease.
