Japan HIV tests market to reach $58 million in 2033, forecasts GlobalData

Japan, known for its robust healthcare system, stands out as one of the countries across the globe with notably low incidence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Driven by advances in testing technologies and increasing number of tests being performed, Japan’s HIV tests market is expected to reach $58 million in 2033, forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report, “Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Tests Market Size by Segments, Share, Regulatory and Reimbursement, Procedures and Forecast to 2033,” reveals that Japan’s HIV tests market accounts for around 20% of the Asia-Pacific market in 2023.

Jyoti Sharma, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “In some instances, HIV remains undetectable due to an exceptionally low viral load; however, an undetectable viral load does not signify the absence of HIV. Instead, it indicates that the virus falls below the threshold of detection in standard tests, highlighting the need for innovative approaches in HIV management.”

In a recent development, Singapore-based Vela Diagnostics has joined forces with SRL Inc to facilitate the distribution of the Sentosa SQ HIV-1 genotyping assay kit in Japan. This collaboration brings together the advanced technologies of next generation sequencing and polymerase chain reaction, making the kit especially advantageous for patients with low viral loads.

This kit has the capability of detecting genomic mutations associated with HIV-1 infection, providing valuable insights that help in better monitoring the progression of the disease. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both companies to advancing diagnostic capabilities and improving patient outcomes in the realm of HIV care.

Sharma concludes: “The healthcare sector in Japan is experiencing a profound change, propelled by innovative technologies and strategic collaborations. With its commitment to innovation, along with its modern health infrastructure, Japan has the potential for considerable improvement in the treatment and prevention of viruses like HIV, setting new benchmarks for healthcare excellence in the years to come.”
