South Korea-based SK Biopharmaceuticals aims to strengthen its digital healthcare ecosystem through “Project Zero”. The innovative solutions developed as a part of this project are expected to not only facilitate the future expansion of the digital health sector in Korea but also enable better care for patients with neurological disorders, says GlobalData, a leading data, and analytics company.
GlobalData’s research reveals that the neurology devices market in South Korea, which accounts for 12% of the Asia-Pacific market in 2023, is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4% through 2030.
Project Zero includes the development of wearable devices compatible with “Zero App”, which monitors seizures in patients with epilepsy and gather bio-signal data in real time. Other products under development are: “Zero Wired,” “Zero Glasses,” “Zero Headband,” “Zero Headset” and “Zero Earbud”.
Kuljot Kaur, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The integration of automated seizure detection technologies powered by artificial intelligence (AI) with the treatment plan is expected to save the lives of many patients suffering from neurological disorders by providing accurate diagnosis and timely treatment.”
SK Biopharmaceuticals looks to leverage all the available resources, pursue in-house entrepreneurship, and open innovation to provide digital health solutions beyond the central nervous system to patients with other diseases, including cancer.
Kaur concludes: “To address the rising prevalence of neurological disorders, there is an urgent need to accelerate the development time and minimize the cost involved in the integration of AI with treatment options. This will provide an opportunity for companies in this space to innovate new products, explore new business opportunities, and build strategic partnerships while bringing a paradigm shift in the treatment of neurological disorders in South Korea.”
