India is set to lead the styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) capacity additions in Asia, contributing to about 98% of the region’s capacity additions in 2026, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s latest report, “Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber (SBR) Industry Installed Capacity and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) Market Forecast by Region and Countries including details of All Active Plants, Planned and Announced Projects, 2022-2026,” reveals that India will record the largest SBR capacity additions in Asia, with the addition of new capacity of 6.65 mtpa from one planned and two announced projects.
Sudarshini Ennelli, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “In India, a significant capacity addition will be from an announced project, Reliance Industries Jamnagar Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Plant, with the capacity of 6.50 mtpa. It is expected to commence production in 2025.”

With 0.10 mtpa capacity, Indian Synthetic Rubber Panipat Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Plant will be the second highest capacity addition project. The plant is expected to begin operations by 2024.
Ennelli concludes: “Reliance Industries Hazira Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Plant will contribute the remaining 0.05 mtpa to the expected SBR capacity additions in India. The plant is expected to commence SBR production by 2024.”
