Fixed broadband service revenue in Taiwan to grow at 1.9% CAGR over 2023-2028, forecasts GlobalData

Taiwan’s fixed broadband service revenue is poised to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.9% from $1.1 billion in 2023 to $1.2 billion in 2028, mainly supported by the steady growth in fiber-optic and cable broadband subscriptions, forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s latest Taiwan Fixed Communications Forecast (Q3 2023) reveals that the number of cable broadband access lines in the country will increase at a CAGR of 2.6% over the forecast period 2023-2028 while the number of fiber optic access lines will increase at a CAGR of 3.3% over the same period. The number of xDSL access lines on the other hand will continue to decline over the forecast period.

Srikanth Vaidya, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Fiber optics lines will account for the largest share of the overall fixed broadband lines through the forecast period, supported by the rising demand for higher-speed broadband connectivity and government’s support for increasing fiber-optic service adoption in the country.”

For example, the government’s ‘Smart Country Plan (2021-2025)’ intends to extend fiber broadband connectivity with minimum 2 Gbps speed to about 90% of the population by 2025.

Vaidya concludes: “Chunghwa Telecom leads the fixed broadband services market in terms of subscriptions in 2023 and will remain the leading company through 2028. This can be primarily attributed to its strong presence in in FTTH segment, and investments on fiber network improvements. The operator’s promotional offers on broadband plans will also help it maintain leadership over the forecast period.”
