Following yesterday’s news of Alphabet’s “Made by Google” event,
Anisha Bhatia, Senior Technology Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers her view:
“Google used its Made by Google event to make one thing clear: the Pixel line — and Android itself — is now primarily a platform for its advancing AI. Hardware specs took a back seat as Google showcased Gemini and the agent-driven features built on it. Most of the six product announcements funnelled toward the same message: Gemini is everywhere.
“Standout AI features include agents such as Magic Cue, an assistant that surfaces the exact message details you need; Camera Coach, which gives step-by-step guidance to help you capture better photos; live voice translation during calls that preserves the speaker’s voice while translating; voice-based image edits in Google Photos; and Gemini Live integration with Pixel Buds Pro2 for real-time AI assistance. Buyers of the Pixel 10 Fold, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL get a year of Google’s $19.99/month AI Pro subscription free.
“The Pixel 10 series is engineered to highlight these AI capabilities. The Pixel 10, 10 Pro and Pro XL pack meaningful hardware upgrades — a new triple-camera system with a 5x telephoto, a Tensor G5 chipset tuned for AI, and durability claims that double the Pixel 8. Google also officially confirmed new form factors, including smart glasses powered by Gemini, and signalled broader distribution of Gemini across verticals, stating plans to extend agentic AI into cars, TVs, smart speakers, and smart displays.
“Google clearly targeted switchers during the event — the marketing pointedly addressed iPhone users with two key problems – easy transfer of data and inclusive RCS messaging. While Google hasn’t significantly dented Apple’s market share yet, its Pixel series loaded with its ever-improving bag of AI magic could give consumers a compelling reason to switch.”
