Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatches disappoint as they lack innovative features, says GlobalData

Following the news that Samsung has unveiled Galaxy Watch 6 series smatwatches at the second edition of its flagship event Galaxy Unpacked 2023 in Seoul, South Korea;

Ardit Ballhysa, Technology Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers his view:

“Samsung’s new smartwatches are void of any innovation. They do not introduce new health, fitness, or connectivity features, and offer the same sensors, waterproof capabilities, and GPS tracking as the previous Galaxy Watch 5 series. This will be a disappointment to consumers, leaving many with no reason to purchase one.

“This lack of innovation is even more disheartening when considering Samsung has proven over decades that it is an innovative company, even paving the way for some technologies, as was most recently showcased with foldables, which it single-handedly made mainstream. Samsung should show some of that innovative love to its wearables by introducing breakthrough health and fitness features.

“In addition, Samsung has raised the prices of its latest smartwatches, which will inevitably, and justifiably, deter some from acquiring one.

“The only saving grace for Samsung’s new smartwatches is the re-introduction of the physical rotating bezel on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. Samsung claimed that it brought this back due to popular demand, which highlights that Samsung is in touch with its users. This will be appreciated by consumers and will go some ways in entrenching consumer loyalty. Furthermore, the physical rotating bezel will also win Samsung points from the athletic and adventurer community as it is compatible with gloves, wet hands, and water.”
